Hot Spot
Hot Spot
Is aloe vera a good thing to put on a hot spot?
I just came home after being away for 2 weeks at work and noticed that my dog has a hot spot or something on the top of his head. The vets are closed due to weekend. Can I put aloe vera or some other remedy to stall or cure this until I get a chance to take to the vet?
Yup, aloe vera soothes from the inside or the outside of a dog. Make sure that the aloe vera that you use is either taken directly from the plant, or preserved with vitamin C/ascorbic acid. There is another preservative that is sometimes used that is poisonous to dogs, but vitamin C is healthy and will help heal your dog as well as act as a preservative in a commercial aloe vera cream or gel.
You may want to take your dog to the vet's on Monday because usually hot spots are brought on by stress (which could be you being gone) but are continuously aggrevated by a dog licking them which eventually produces a bare spot. It is possible that it isn't a hot spot but in fact something else that needs more attention then just aloe vera cream to soothe it.
Good luck and hope he gets better!
